Total time: 20m
10 mins – Standing SH drift practice
Notes: Decided to aim for just 8 in a row (not as many as possible) and see if I can consistently do that.
10 mins – Standing SH drift practice (step up step down)
Notes: Tried a new strategy. Start a 1 SH, if you get it right try for 2. If you get that go for 3 and so on.
Catch is if you mess up you step down 1.
Record was 6 and only got that once. Got 5 maybe 3-4 times. Spent most of my time in the 1-3 range.
This type of practice was WAAAY more engaging. It put the pressure on to get a lot in a row and made it fun to try and work my way up. Didn’t need music/audiobook and stayed more focused and conscious during the training.
This practice feels much more useful than any other strategies I have used to date. I got the idea from the book Peak by Anders Ericsson where he trained people to remember random numbers. He used a 1 up 2 down approach where you dropped 2 levels when you got it wrong. It appears this strategy also works for Melee practice. I will likely apply this to other tech practice in the future.
